Two historical scales

Harappa is an archaeological site in present-day Sahiwal District, recorded by the federal archaeology department. The modern city belongs to a much later history. This guide keeps those scales separate rather than treating ancient Harappa as the beginning of one continuous modern administrative district.

Harappa as a place

The archaeological site is the destination behind the familiar Harappa name. Excavation research distinguishes phases of occupation; what a visitor can see should not automatically be assigned to one phase. Read the Early and Mature Harappa articles for chronological context rather than dating every visible wall by appearance.

Harappa Museum

The provincial archaeology account identifies a museum near the site with archaeological specimens. This supports its inclusion as a museum connected with Harappa, but an older description does not establish which objects are displayed now. Check museum access separately from access to the archaeological landscape.

Sahiwal’s later development

The Urban Unit city profile discusses modern Sahiwal in its railway and agricultural setting. This is a useful counterpoint to ancient archaeology. The old guide’s broad market and canal-country language is retained only as context, without inventing a named public canal excursion or orchard visit.
